FAIL

I tried using book cover material, but I can't get it to stick to the foam.

I am resorting to a sateen type material. I know you said you didn't want us to use anything like that, so please don't kill me, Stan.

Box Construction, Part One

The setup: shoe box for guide/skeleton, upholstery foam, spray adhesive, hacksaw, book cover material and board.

I cut the upholstery foam with the hacksaw.

Change of plans: instead of carving the foam to fit the bottle and glasses, I am going to make sections. Working with the foam is difficult, and I don't have the right tools.

Glued the board to the shoe box to make it sturdier.

Cut the foam and glued it to the boards.

Revised Magazine Layout

Thanks John. I like this much more. I wasn't sure if I needed to stay with American Typewriter for everything or not. 

The picture in the background is something that I took, but the train, plane, and rail map are things that I found on the internet and manipulated. Do you think that is okay?

I am still working on the type; it was much more legible in ID. I like Futura as the title quite a bit, though. 

Luxury Blog Focuses on Alcohol Labels

Found a website on luxury, and it had a section on alcohol labels. There were some interesting packaging; for example, different shapes, aluminum boxes, etc.   If you are still stuck on packaging, this may help.

I can't decide between the two. It's a very slight difference; helvetica vs. american typewriter.

Wine Bottle Drawings

I decided to start over (again). I am going for an art nouveau look for my bottle. These illustrations are still a little rough, but I need help deciding which one to continue with. The one on the left includes the McManis shield, but I was worried it was too much so I made another illustration without it. I might also add a background, but I'm not sure about that either. 

Can't Wait for After Effects

watching. Some of them I don't quite get why they are on the 

list, but I didn't compile the movies...

These are alright. The part I find most interesting is when 

she does the rubbing of the title.


This reminds me of North by Northwest title sequence. 

Never watched the show, though I hear it is good.

So, I'm a kid at heart; I love, love cartoons. I really like this 

opening sequence. It has a Saul Bass feel to it.

When I was working on my wine bottle project, my puppies came upstairs to see what I was up to, so I took some pictures. They got some pretzels, too.

Wine Redesign: Changed my mind

I really like these bottles, and I am going to use them as a model of sorts to follow. I had originally picked out white wines because I wanted to do a design that you would see through the bottle. So, I decided to research the McManis family coat of arms, and that will be what is seen through the bottle. I am still going to have the wax seal at the top of the neck of the bottle with the paper strip over the top. Where the sub rosa paper label is on the bottles above, I am going to use a cranberry color transfer with information on the McManis family and the vineyards. I think this is going to turn out a lot better, and it will look better in my portfolio

Don't want to steal Maker's Mark's mark

So, I was thinking of making the McManis wine bottle into a family style jug wine with a red wax seal, but I am a bit worried that it will look too much like Maker's Mark. I guess it will just depend on how the seal looks. (?)

What Do You Think?

This is where I am going to stop for right now. The giant circle at the bottom is a place holder for the gsu logo; it is on my thumb drive, which I don't have with me right now. The final size for the poster is going to be somewhere in the range of 20" x 30" to 24" x 36"-ish. I think this works better than anything else. (?)

Happy Place?

    So, it's just the poster; ignore the screen shot, please. (did that just so it would be quick, but there is nothing quick about uploading a photo onto blogger) Anyway, Justin gave me the idea to work with the particle board by placing the text at similar angles as some of the pieces in the board.  I was fighting the background so much even though I like the texture and excitement it offers. yay. I think this feels more fun; at least I am having more fun with it anyway.

    I really want to use clean computer generated type for all of the information. I like the "work-in-progress" look of the ripped paper, but I think it is a little hokey and a bit too informal for what this is.  So I am going to keep at it. I was getting really discouraged there for a little bit, but I think this is getting better. Thank you everyone for your comments. I really appreciate them; you all help me out so much.

How I got to where I am

I like the pictures of the work in progress.

I was thinking about drawing/tracing helvetica neue type on a piece of cotton rag/watercolor/bristol (haven't decided yet, depends on what rips up better), rip it, scan it, and put it on the board in photoshop. 

This is just a mock up. The paper I will use is going to be white or a cream color. 

I am kind of stuck.  Still afraid to get paint anywhere near this, but I will get over that. I think a little bit of blue will make it pop.

Robert Rauschenberg

Stan said my MFA poster reminded him of Robert Rauschenberg, and I had never heard of him before, so I did some research. I like his lithographs and use of ordinary, everyday materials and the way he thinks. Some quotes:
