I am down to these for the two-word logo design. They kinda look like they should be for a spa in new mexico or something, especially the one on the left.

The live trace/paint thing wasn't too bad, although I still don't quite understand it. Overall I am pretty satisfied with this piece... hope everybody else is, too.    :)

These are some prints for the magazine logo. Now I just need to pick one and see if I can do the live trace thing in illustrator (which should be interesting because the only other time I used that was on accident). 

I think I'm finished.

So, I guess this is getting closer to being finished. The letter sizes and the overall layout needs to be worked on. I think that it is kind of hard to read, but I don't know if that is because I have been staring at it for too long or if it is actually illegible. Is it hard to read, and does it look too photoshopped? Should I take the letters out of their environment and have them stand alone?

Alphabet Second Try

  This is another idea I thought I would try out.  Sorry that the pictures aren't very good. It is glue gun on wax paper that I clipped to my lamp. I was trying to show that the glue is layered on top of itself so that it sticks off the page. If I decide to use this I am going to have to find a better way to photograph them.

First try alphabet

While I was stuck in traffic on the way home I decided I wanted to focus on my car for the alphabet. This is a rough draft; some of the pictures didn't turn out and I need to retake them. Should I keep going with this idea? Are the letters too hard to read? Please let me know. thanks!

My type journey

Okay. I went on a little adventure on highway 9 (up through Forsyth County) kind of by accident--I just kept driving until I got to another road I recognized. I started out by an intersection near my neighborhood and finished at my old high school (I was going to take pictures of the football field but I ran out of day light). You can follow it in the collage if you start in the upper left corner and end at the bottom right.  It has been four years since I have really driven around up in the burbs; so much has changed.  Suburban sprawl is eating away at the countryside. I hadn't planned on going to cemeteries (they creep me the hell out) but it was just such an interesting juxtaposition of the old grave markers next to the freshly built cookie-cut houses. My original intent was to go around to some of the shopping centers and get pictures of type, but that was so boring. Everything was sans serif and all caps. And so, in conclusion, I hate the suburbs. Everything is the same, it is all just corporate shit.  But I did have fun going around taking pictures. I got some very pretty shots that I wasn't expecting, and it was an excuse to get out of the house for a while.

Here is the Nader piece. I think I might like the Barr one more; the space is better organized. Still need to put the faces in there. We'll see how that turns out.

Drastically Different Approach

Okay. I am much happier with this. There are still a few things I need to do, such as put a small portrait of Barr in the "L". (I think? should I just leave it alone?) The Nader piece is going to be similar, I am going to stick with the same color palate. The other thing looked like a high school art project; you know something is bad when you hate it and yourself while working on it. I think this is a better direction. Comments? please?

Okay. This is my Barr portrait. I might add color using cut out construction paper. Maybe possibly spray painting the background with some more red to look like a target. I am not sure about that though. Any feedback? For the Nader portrait he is standing at a podium crushing the donkey with his hand while giving a speech. The concept is that the candidates are taking votes away from the two main parties. (am I making sense at all?)

So f***ing frustrated!

I feel like I have been beating my head up against the wall. I am having such a hard time figuring out anything to do for the political portraits. I have looked at blogs, websites for type, magazines, books on type, politicians' sites, etc etc. Time is running out. I am getting desperate, and I don't think drinking anymore coffee is going to help.
