DIY Astronomy Pictures

Alright, so the top picture is from astronomy picture of the day, but I thought I would give a point of comparison. The rest are prints made from Sunprint Paper. It is a kit made by Toysmith; I used to sell it at the toystore. Many teachers use it to teach about shapes. Anyway, you lay objects down on the paper and expose them to sunlight for one to three minutes. After the paper has been exposed, you rinse it off in cold water, and then your image shows up. Of course, these colors have been altered a bit.

Portfolio Revisions!
I was told to punch up this poster and push it to the limit. So I made everything bigger and overlap, and in general interact more. I want to keep the white background, because I don't have many things with white. I'm not sure if I'm done with it yet though...
This poster is pissing me and my computer off--there are soooooo many layers. And right now I'm not really sure what to do with it. I like the juxtaposition of the vector images with photography, but it also feels right to make it more vector/illustrated looking. I just need to stop looking at it for a bit.
No more illustrator stroke around the edges of the photo. And I turned it on it's side a bit and made it much larger to try and make it look more interesting.Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Style Guide for Self Branding and Resume

Foolishly, I though I knew what I wanted to do for my branding, but I don't. So I've been doing a bit of research and decided to put a style guide together to help gather my thoughts. I am leaning towards neutra text, twentieth cent mt, or century gothic for my type choice, and I know I want to use craft paper and vellum a lot.

A Short Film Comprised of Nothing but Logos
Logorama - il était une fois les marques (trailer) from sophie spreafico on Vimeo.
Logorama,” which won this year’s Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, is a movie made up entirely of logos. Remarkable in itself, this award is testament to the fact that logos have risen beyond tools for brand marketing and have become the most recognizable images of pop culture around the world. Written and directed by H5’s Francois Alaux, Herve de Crecy and Ludovic Houplain, “Logorama” is a 16-minute animated crime story that takes place in Los Angeles (where else?). Brand logos not only comprise the landscape, they are the heroes and villains of the film. The plot, which has shades of Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” gone seriously awry, revolves around a curvaceous Esso girl, a sinister Ronald McDonald, Michelin men cops and a dapper Mr. Pringles, with cameo appearances by more than 2,500 logos and corporate brands. At a time when brand advertisers pay huge sums of money to sneak their product into the scene of a feature film, even for a few seconds, “Logorama” turns the concept of brand placement on its ear.

Booklet/Poster

I'm still working on the background. I've been playing with different color shapes to go in the back and those will help separate the different conglomerates.
